This video shows how to clean a brush that has natural, real lacquer in it in a way that will preserve the bristles. I use canola cooking oil to push the black lacquer out of the bristles and then wrap it in plastic wrap in order to keep the oil from drying out.

Traditional, lacquer based kintsugi, polishing gold
This video shows polishing keshifun gold with both mawata and a polishing tool. It isn’t necessary to do so but on occasion I do to slightly change the look of the piece. The piece is an ancient clay figure of a cow where I reconstrusted the horn and ear.

Traditional, lacquer based kintsugi, shaping kokuso,
This video shows shaping kokuso using traditional, lacquer based kintsugi. Kokuso is a mixture of flour, water, lacquer and wood powder. It is strong and easy to shape. I am shaping it after applying it to an already reconstructed ear and horn on this figure. I can’t get the shape I need so am applying extra material so get it. I will need to again apply some more kokuso as the bottom of the ear is too high compared to the other side.
